Tango and Serenades
The Heart of Spain
An Evening by candle glow on a Jaffa Monastery

📍Tel Aviv, Armenian Monastery in Jaffa Port
1 hour 10 min, from 160 ils

A warm evening, the flickering glow of hundreds of candles, and the ancient arches of a historic monastery. Music carried over the waves of the Mediterranean. Here, above the winding streets of old Jaffa, cello and classical guitar tell stories of love — from tender serenades to passionate tango.

Tango and Serenades is a musical journey through cities, cultures and emotions. The journey begins in Spain, takes you through Paris, and continues to the vibrant streets of Latin America. The programme brings together the rich, expressive sound of the cello, the magnetic rhythms of tango, the fiery spirit of Argentine dance, and the delicate voice of the classical guitar.

The programme features Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, music by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Enrique Granados, The Swan by Camille Saint-Saëns, and Siete canciones populares españolas by Manuel de Falla.

A concert where Spanish influences, dance rhythms and almost theatrical expressiveness come together. When love cannot be expressed in words, it can be told through music — through melodies dissolving into the cool evening air, the reflections of flickering lights, and the moonlight shimmering across the gentle waves of the warm Mediterranean Sea.

This is music not for conservatories or dusty concert halls. It is music for the open air, for memories, and for emotions that need no words.

We invite you to spend this special evening on the terrace of a historic monastery — listening, feeling, and letting yourself be carried away by the melodies of tango and serenades.

On stage:
Yakov Kashin — Cello
A member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and a graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Before moving to Israel, he performed with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov and took part in international festivals and chamber music projects.

Daniel Schatz — Classical Guitar
A graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. A prizewinner of competitions and scholarship programmes, he has performed solo and chamber music programmes in Israel, Europe and South America.

Please note: the concert takes place outdoors on the grounds of an ancient seaside monastery. It may get chilly by the sea in the evening, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or something warm in case of cool weather.

Also, please be aware that there is no bar or café on the monastery grounds.

Entrance to the monastery is from the Jaffa promenade side, not through the Old City.

See you among the candles, music, and the evening sea ✨
